Wearable that reminds you to drink water... and stops when you've had enough?

Its been almost ten years since I’ve been inspired by Norwegian design studio Skrekkøgle (Product in photo above). They created a sleek wearable that vibrates every 5 minutes to help you become more efficient with your time management. I reached out to them eagerly, very enterprisingly, and asked for sponsorship to help me build my own idea. They entertained the idea but quickly made me become aware that my budget needs to plan for a range of a few hudnreds to a thousand units just to break even. They needed to hire a Project Manager at the time and I wonder now if they ever got enough in the pipeline to hire one. Even though they pointed me to resources, I just didn’t have the funs to start.

….and now, circa 2022:

I’ve developed an idea of a wearable - preferably like a watch - that will vibrate at intervals to urge you to drink water. Thats it! Its going to be called Drink and the marketing will say “You’ve ordered a Drink” or “Would you like to order a Drink?”. The problem in the “water drinking industry” is that there is some confusion in the amount required. You read blanket statements at various sources online that tells you everybody needs to drink: a gallon of waternope.. oh nope, just one liter or actually maybe just 2 glasses a day.

The patentable opportunity is the fact that this watch will be tailored specifically to your anthropometric attributes. Essentially, it will calculate the approximate amount of water your body needs to consume daily and measure your water intake to let you know when to stop drinking. Using the estimated volume for a gulp of water to calculate daily intake, it will recognize your drinking water motion and register every time it recognizes that physical pattern.

…..How would the differentiation between drinking water vs other liquids work vs when eating?

Will you need to press a button every time you drink? No thats not plausible. Will the Drinker need to switch hands when its time to? Not definite if there is enough reward to make up for that momentary effort. Will there be a mobile phone app component that will ask you to verify intake? Nah.. thats too deep. Will the user just need to take responsibility and be accountable for measuring intake? You might risk being labelled a completely useless product.

Here’s the winner ➟ Instead of over complicating, why not keep it simpler and just have a watch that vibrates at programmed intervals and will stop vibrating when it recognizes you’ve had enough.

Yes it is a bit of a novelty product but there is avenue for gifting purposes!
